The term " Engineers Without Borders

(EWB) used in several non-governmental organizations in different countries

to describe their activities on the basis of engineering and development-oriented international work. All these groups are working to meet the needs of people around the world using engineering solutions.

formally affiliated with each other, and their level of cooperation and institutional development is changing. Most EWB/ISF (French, "Engineers of the World without Borders") organizations are closely connected with scientific and student community.

The first organization which bore the

name of "Engineers of the World without Borders "

(ISF)-France, founded in the 1980s, ISF - Spain and ISF - Italy, founded in the 1990s. EWB-Canada, one of the largest ISI organizations, was founded in the late 1990s. EWB-UK was founded with the support of EWB-Canada in 2001.
Since then there have been created a large number of other EWB /ISF groups around the world, with different structure and business objectives.

the organization of Engineers Without Borders - international (EWB-I).

EWB - the Association of national EWB /ISF groups exist to promote and cooperation, exchange of information and assistance to members of its group. EWB-I, was established in 2004 Professor Bernard Amadeus - founder of the USA.

Several other old EWB /ISF - groups are not members of EWB - Association for a number of reasons. EWB in Canada, for example, States: "an organization is more than just a name and roughly the same purpose. In order to work together in an organization should be a common strategy and culture, one of which is currently "international network". However, this opinion is not shared by all EWB group.
