What is deforestation?
Deforestation is one of the most serious
environmental issues with far-reaching penalties. From temperate forests to
tropical rainforests, deforestation has threatened the whole animal kingdom and has caused global warming as well.

What is deforestation?
The word deforestation refers to clearing
of forests mainly due to human activity by the
process of logging or burning. Since the dawn of human civilization, a man has been clearing natural forests either to use trees or to use the cleared area for alternative uses. Acres of forest areas have been cut down for using the logs as fuel, clearing land for agriculture, oil extraction, dam construction, mining operations, and making space to accommodate the ever-increasing human population. In some studies it has been estimated that over 12 - 15 million hectares of forest are cleared each year. The effects of deforestation are large and if we don’t take action now to check deforestation, it will be too late to prevent this problem. But why does deforestation have such severe consequences? What is the damage caused by deforestation?
Слайд 5
Deforestation Causes
Trees are cut down
for/to:
Being a main source of lumber that is used
for building
different materials, such as furniture and paper products
Слайд 6
To create free space for grazing cattle.
Слайд 7
To produce fuel for cooking and heating purposes.
Слайд 8
Other reasons for deforestation include wildfires, acid rain
and making highways and roads.
Слайд 9
Deforestation Consequences
Soil Erosion
- is the displacement of the
upper layer of soil, one form of soil degradation.
Слайд 10
Floods & Drought
Forests are a life saver, as
they absorb a large amount of the rainfall, thereby
stopping it from entering the inhabited areas and rivers. The cutting down of trees leads to disruption in the regular flow of water, thus causing floods in some areas, while drought in other areas.
Слайд 11
Climate change
Global warming is one of
the largest consequences of deforestation. Since there are fewer
trees left for absorbing greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, these gases are released into the atmosphere, thereby increasing the temperature of the land and water. Also, deforestation leads to releasing of carbon that is stored in the trees in the form of carbon dioxide.
Слайд 12
How to stop deforestation
Trees and plants are one
of the best gifts that God has given to
people. By consuming carbon dioxide and giving out oxygen, they make the earth a place worth living. Apart from that, they also provide us with food, in the form of fruits and vegetables. But now more and more of them are being cut, either for wood or to make way for houses or other structures. It is our responsibility to stop the deforestation taking place.

Local ways to prevent deforestation.
By analyzing the local
course of events, we have formulated 4 ways to
prevent deforestation by changing politics in our town in these ways:
restrict paper use in English classrooms by means of switching to online formative and summative quizzes and tests.
restrict paper use by means of switching to e-coursebooks.
participating in voluntary Earth Days in one’s town.
promoting “green politics” within our local community
