of 12, the future poet published his first poem. In 1938 he finished the secondary school No. 1 in Elista and a year later he entered the Kalmyk Pedagogical Institute in Astrakhan. He was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR.

D. N. Kugultinov joined the Red Army. In 1944,
D.N. Kugultinov was deported to Siberia. He began to
work as a teacher in Biysk. A year later, he was arrested and sent to Norilsk.

Moscow. D.Kugultinov’s works became popular among the readers of
the country. In 1967 the poet was awarded the State Prize.
