School in Russia is divided into primary school
(grades 1-4), junior secondary school (grades 5-9) and senior
secondary school (grades 10-11). Kids study for 5 or 6 days a week in primary school and 6 days in junior and senior secondary school. In most of the Russian Federation the academic year is divided into 4 terms with one- or two-week breaks between them and longer summer holidays.

Some schools use the trimester system, which divides
the academic year into three quarters. Exams are an
important part of school life. Students must turn them in after the 9th and 11th years of study. Students who have graduated from Junior high school-pass exams called Final Certification (GIA), and if they pass the exam they get a certificate .

The certificate gives pupils access to further education.
They can continue their education in secondary school or
go to College. At the end of 11-year school pupils pass the Unified state examination (use) . If they pass the exams, they can go to University.
