Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor and
businessman. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life
around the world: the phonograph, the motion picture camera, a long-lasting practical electric light bulb... He created the first industrial research laboratory.
Edison was a prolific inventor, holding 1,093 US patents in his name.
Слайд 10
Thomas Edison’s Phonograph
Considered to be the first great
Thomas Edison invention, and his life-long favorite, the phonograph
would record the spoken voice and play it back. The first recorded message was of Thomas Edison speaking “Mary had a little lamb”.
Слайд 11
Thomas Edison’s Light Bulb
Edison was able to achieve
a light bulb that lasted for many hours, Edison
also later invented the entire electric utility system so he could power all those light bulbs, motors and other appliances that soon followed.
Слайд 12
Thomas Edison’s Motion Picture
Working with W. K.
L. Dickson, Edison developed the Strip Kinetograph, using George
Eastman’s improved 35 mm celluloid film. Cut into continuous strips and perforated along the edges, the film was moved by sprockets in a stop-and-go motion behind the shutter.

Thomas Edison’s First Invention – The Electrographic Vote
Recorder
The device was made with the aim of helping
legislators in the US Congress to record their votes in a quicker way than the voice vote system.
Слайд 14
Thomas Edison’s Magnetic Iron Ore Separator
Thomas Edison
experimented during the 1880′s and 1890′s with using magnets
to separate iron ore from low grade, unusable ores.
Edison totally revolutionized the cement kiln industry.

Telegraph improvements
The key to Edison's fortunes was telegraphy.
With knowledge gained from years of working as a
telegraph operator, he learned the basics of electricity. This allowed him to make his early fortune with the stock ticker, the first electricity-based broadcast system. On August 9, 1892, Edison received a patent for a two-way telegraph.

Carbon telephone transmitter
In 1877–78 Edison along with the
Bell invented and developed the carbon microphone used in all telephones
receiver until the 1980s.
The carbon microphone was also used in radio broadcasting and public address work.
