Early years
Horatio Nelson was the sixth of 11
children of the village rector, Edmund Nelson, and his
wife, Catherine. Nelson was born in a gentle, scholarly and poor family.

When Horatio’s mother died, Captain Suckling, her brother,
agreed to take the boy to sea.

his wife Emma.

During his travelling Nelson heard that she had born him a daughter named Horatia.
