In 1770, a British expedition led by James Cook explored and mapped the east coast of Australia. The first landing took place on April 29 at Botany Bay.
January 26, 1788 Captain Arthur Phillip founded the
settlement of Sydney Cove, which later became the city
of Sydney. This event was a countdown history of the British colony of New South Wales, and the landing of Phillip Day is celebrated in Australia as a national holiday, Australia Day.
