HISTORY In 1620 the first colonists, pilgrims,
from New England came to America and began a
new life there. It was a very hard life. Many people were sick and died during the first winter in the cold. Indians taught them to cultivate corns and to grow different vegetables and fruits.
colonists decided to have a special dinner. They wanted to thank God – to give him their thanks for many things. It was a difficult year, but people still had food to eat. The colonists had a thanksgiving dinner (feast) for all the people. It lasted 3 days. Since that time people have been celebrating Thanksgiving Day.
