The phonetic unit
of modern Chinese is syllable,which is composed of initial,final
and tone.Initial:The consonant that begins a syllable is called an initial and there are 23 of them in modern Chinese .
Final:The element after the initial in a Chinese syllable is the final.There are 24 finals in modern Chinese.
