The Grand Canyon is one of the greatest wonders of nature and belongs to the most stunning examples of erosion in the world. The magnificence and variety of colored, bizarre rock formations is simply overwhelming and incredible.
Since about 6 to 10 million years the Colorado river together with other erosive forces has been carving this spectacular gorge, which is up to 60 feet (1800 m) deep, up to 18 miles (29 km) across and about 220 miles (350 km) long.

National Monument
By its wondrous size, to say nothing
of its majesty and mystery, Rainbow Bridge has inspired humans throughout time. For native Americans in this region it is a religious, sacred site. Thousands of people from all over the world have visited this monument each year. From the base up to the top of its arch it is 290 feet and spans 275 feet across the river. The top of the arch is 42 feet thick and 33 feet wide.
Rainbow Bridge is located at Lake Powell. From Page it is a 5 hours ride by boat to get there and back, including the visit. The ride leads across most interesting rock formations and truly is a fascinating trip.

Canyon National Park is a red, pink and golden rock ‘fairy-land’ of pinnacles and spires. It was known to the Paiute Indians as ‘red rocks standing like men in bowl-shaped canyon’. The Bryce Canyon is another spectacular example of erosion of breathtaking beauty.

The original inhabitants in South
Utah, the Paiutes, looked upon the colorful "Hoodoos" as "Legend People" who were turned to stone by Coyote.
Erosive forces as well as ancient rivers and
basins have formed a remarkable arrangement
of fantastic shapes and changed colorful Claron limestone, sandstone and mudstone into a maze of thousands of strange figures, like spires, fins and some of them looking like people – the well-known “Hoodoos”.
