Слайд 3 Yosemite National Park is located in California, on
the west coast of the United States. It occupies
more than 3,000 square kilometers. The park is situated in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada and has an elevation range from 600 to 4,000 meters. Yosemite is world famous for its fantastic granite cliffs, waterfalls, glaciers, mountain rivers and streams. Almost 95% of the park is protected wilderness, which is home to a huge diversity of plants and animals.Common Things

PLANNING YOUR HIKE
Yosemite is a place of wilderness.
A small fee is charged to enter the park.
You should make a reservation for the campgrounds if you want to spend the night in the park. Pets, cars and bicycles are not allowed on wilderness trails.Слайд 6 Evaluate your abilities honestly. Make plans that will
suit the weakest members of your group.
Be sure to
carry a map and compass with you at all plans.Plan a lot of time for rest, food preparation and a storage, and a campsite selection.
You should be prepared for an extreme cold, a sudden rain, a strong wind, morning or evening fog and high temperatures regardless of the season.
Think carefully about what equipment you are going to take. Always carry extra food and water.

In the park it is illegal:
to hunt animals
to
collect plants or cones
to camp outside of camping areas
to
feed wild animalsto collect reptiles or insects, particularly butterflies
to pick up or use wood from the surrounding area
to make any permanent changes to campsites
Because of fire danger, campfires are permitted ONLY from 5.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.
Quiet hours are between 10.00 p.m. and 8.00 a.m.
Because of bears, proper food storage is necessary 24 hours a day.

Some dangerous things
Drowning is believed to be the
number 1 cause of death in national parks.
Be
especially careful near rivers and streams. If you fall in, it will soon prove to be nearly impossible to get out.
The water is very cold and the current is strong. It can quickly drain all your strength .
Слайд 9 Afternoon thunderstorms are not rare. As soon as
you see dark clouds or hear distant thunder find
shelter immediately.Do not try to hide under a tree — get inside a building.
If you are out in the wilderness, find a cave.
It is as dangerous to stay in open meadows.
You should also stay away from water and all open metal constructions.

Plant & Animal Life
The world of animals and
plants is very different. Tourist can meet some rare
animals which are protected now. For example, Grey Foxes, Mule Deers, Mountain Kingsnakes, White-headed Woodpeckers, and a wide variety of bat species.

But there are some insects and
reptiles which can be dangerous for tourists.
Among them are
ticks which carry Lyme disease. That’s why if it bites you, you should immediately find a doctor.

You may come across a rattlesnake but these
snakes are unlikely to attack if you don't provoke
them.

A Large black bear
Yosemite National Park is
home to large black bears which are known to
have broken cars, trailers, tents, and other camping equipment.Слайд 31 If you are a tourists in this park
you should observe some necessary rules : -do not leave
food in the car -dispose of food in special box -keep all doors and windows of your hut closed -do not let the bear get closer to your food -if you are close to a bear, shout and make big hand gestures -if the bear accidentally get food, do not try to take it back
