The National Park covers 555 square miles (1,440 km2). Most
of the area falls within the Peak District National Park,
whose designation in 1951 made it the first national park in the British Isles.

The national park consists of two parts: Dark
and White Peak. Northern part (Dark Peak) represents the
boundless open spaces which have been not touched by the person. Southern (White Peak), it is populated with local residents and welcomes the visitors picturesque small hotels and pubs.
